Classic massage

Classic massage, also known as Swedish massage, is one of the oldest and most basic forms of manual therapy and forms the basis of many modern massage techniques. It was systematized in the 19th century by the Swede Per Henrik Ling and developed into a methodological form of treatment.

This traditional form of massage comprises five fundamental techniques: effleurage (gliding strokes that regulate tissue tone and promote blood flow), pétrissage (kneading and walking movements to work deeper muscle layers), friction (circular frictions to release adhesions), tapotement (rhythmic tapping to stimulate tissue) and vibration (fine tremors to regulate tone). These techniques are applied systematically, usually from peripheral to central, and their intensity can be dosed depending on the treatment goal.

Physiologically, classical massage works on various levels: mechanically through direct tissue influence, reflectorily through activation of nerve receptors and psychovegetatively through relaxation reactions in the autonomic nervous system.

Areas of application:

  • Muscular tensions
  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Supporting recovery after sport
  • Adjunctive therapy for musculoskeletal disorders
