Dry Needling

Dry needling is an evidence-based physiotherapy treatment method in which thin, solid acupuncture needles are inserted into painful trigger points, tight muscle areas, or dysfunctional connective tissue.

In contrast to traditional Chinese acupuncture, dry needling is based on neurophysiological principles and anatomical knowledge of western medicine. It is not aimed at energetic meridians, but at specific neuromuscular structures.

The method causes several physiological reactions: blood flow is increased locally, hardened muscles are relaxed and trigger points are deactivated. On a neurophysiological level, the mechanical stimulation of the needle activates the body's own pain control systems and modulates inflammatory processes.

Depending on the treatment goal, the needles remain in the tissue for between a few seconds and about 15 minutes and can also be stimulated by light movements. The treatment is carried out after careful findings and is often combined with other physiotherapy measures such as manual therapy, stretching techniques and active exercises.

Areas of application:

  • Chronic muscle tension
  • Movement restrictions
  • myofascial pain syndromes
  • overload syndromes
